Carbon Steel Tubes for General Structure

Carbon Steel Tubes for Machine Structures

Nippon Steel & Sumikin Pipe provides the carbon steel tubes for general structures described below.

Applications and Features

Carbon steel tubes for general structures are generally used for steel pipe structures in civil engineering and construction, including public works, construction, steel towers, scaffolding, posts, sheet piles, and supports.

Chemical Composition and Mechanical Properties

Chemical Composition and Mechanical Properties Notes:
  1. The No. 5 test piece may be used in a pipe with an outer diameter of 200 mm or more and, with the consent of the ordering party, may be used in pipes with other outer diameters.
  2. When performing the tensile test with the No. 12 and No. 5 test pieces on tubes with a wall thickness of less than 8 mm, the minimum elongation value shall be the value obtained by subtracting 1.5% from the given elongation value for each 1 mm reduction in thickness and rounding off to an integer in accordance with JIS Z8401 (Rules for Rounding off of Numerical Values).
  3. The elongation specifications in this table do not apply to tubes with an outer diameter of 40 mm or less. However, the test results are recorded. Also, the elongations may be stipulated on agreement between the receiving and delivering parties.
  4. When taking pieces for the tensile test, the No. 12 and No. 5 test pieces are taken form portions that do not include welds.
  5. Alloying elements besides those given here may be added as necessary.
  6. In the case of STK540, the chemical composition of tubes with a wall thickness greater than 12.5 mm shall be determined by agreement between the receiving and delivering parties.

Dimensional Tolerances

Dimensional Tolerances
Notes:
  1. No. 1 dimensional tolerances shall apply unless stated otherwise.
  2. The outer diameter tolerances for the ends of tubes with an outer diameter greater than 350 mm shall be ±0.5%.
  3. The method for measuring the outer diameter of tubes with an outer diameter greater than 350 mm can be based on circumference.
